Martin Upton

 

   Associate and livestock economist

Martin Upton has more than 40 years experience in studying, researching, teaching and promoting agricultural production economics.  He has written 5 books on different aspects of Farm Management and Production Economics.  He has taught these subjects both at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and the University of Reading. He has published over 30 research papers on various aspects of farm and rural development and written many consultancy reports.   Since the early 1980s he has concentrated on the economics of animal production and health.

 

Martin’s recent activities have included:

  • Assistance to Defra to develop an economic framework for developing and appraising their animal health & welfare policy

  • Advice to the Government of Malta regarding their accession to the European Union and on economic policy issues relating to their livestock sector

  • Cost benefit analysis of Foot and Mouth Disease control options for Defra.
